BOWLS TUNER CHALLENGE xB
BACKGROUND:
Bowls is an upscale lifestyle boutique in Southern California that lives by the motto "Blurring the lines for all to see..." It achieves this by introducing its clientele to a blend of unique and eclectic products they may have never known existed - hard-to-find and limited goods from across a spectrum of markets that are unavailable at traditional chain stores.
For its xB Tuner Challenge entry, Bowls took design cues from a 1970 Toyota Crown pickup truck, which was never released in the U.S. Described as the Japanese version of an El Camino, Chevy's iconic coupe utility vehicle produced in the '60s, '70s and '80s, a matching custom bike was also created and will sit in the bed of the "truck." The feel of the vehicle is total '70s Southern California, and Bowls is incorporating several trick elements to the project besides the truck conversion. This build was done entirely in-house at Advanced Design Fabrications (ADF) with the help of Eric Toyoshiba and Eddie Estrada.
HIGHLIGHTS:
* Brian Crower cams and valve-train
* Toyota Racing Development (TRD) clutch, limited-slip differential (LSD), brakes, front strut tower brace and rear stabilizer bar
* Air Lift Company complete digital air ride kit
* Custom truck conversion, roll cage, paint, sub enclosure, amp rack and machined billet 20" wheels by ADF, wheels shod in Toyo Proxes 4 tires
* Pioneer in-car entertainment (ICE)

EPIC CARTEL tC
BACKGROUND:
Legendary sport compact drag racer and vehicle builder Jeremy Lookofsky and his Cartel Customs outfit will have a new creation among the Scions dotting the auto maker's booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center at SEMA 2009, the Epic Cartel tC. Inspiration for project Epic came from a mix of builds Lookofsky has been involved in over the last 18 months, ideas that he's stored in his so-called DB (Design Bank), waiting to cash out with the next project.
Major talking points that make the build unique include a new twist of technology and insane flowing body lines. The tC has been chopped three inches, with the B pillars and center glass roof section removed and reinforced completely. Lookofsky says this style build makes for great display car interaction with onlookers, and completes the Scion line of cars better known as the Cartel open-air collection.
